About

Pawtucket, Rhode Island’s “Barton Street Neighborhood” has been notorious for prostitution for more than 70 years. Project Renew of the Pawtucket Citizens Development Corporation (PCDC) undertook to transform the neighborhood’s character by reaching out to the commercial sex workers themselves and supporting them to escape addiction and find an alternative life style. The project has since shifted to a Providence, RI base.

Project RENEW (Revitalizing Engaging Neighborhoods by Empowering Women) is an innovative, collaborative project that works comprehensively to reduce prostitution in Pawtucket, Central Falls, and Providence, RI.
